Dive briefing
Japanese Gardens is one of Aqaba’s most iconic and visually stunning dive sites, famous for its calm conditions, exceptional visibility, and vibrant coral formations. The site gets its name from the way the soft and hard corals spread naturally across the reef — resembling a beautifully arranged underwater garden. The dive begins in shallow water, where snorkelers and beginner divers can enjoy a lively reef filled with anthias, butterflyfish, and schools of colorful juveniles dancing over branching corals. As you move deeper, the reef gently slopes down to 30–40 meters, offering scenic coral pinnacles, natural sandy pathways, and impressive coral structures that create perfect opportunities for underwater photography. Marine life is abundant throughout the site. Divers often encounter moray eels, angelfish, wrasses, lionfish, trumpetfish, and occasionally sea turtles gliding through the gardens. The mild currents and relaxed environment make Japanese Gardens suitable for all levels — from first-time divers to experienced underwater explorers who want slow, peaceful dives full of color and life. With its combination of easy entry, beautiful reefscape, and rich marine biodiversity, Japanese Gardens delivers a calm, enjoyable, and truly memorable Red Sea experience.
Safety notes
This site is generally calm and beginner-friendly, with light or no current. Maintain proper buoyancy to protect the delicate coral gardens. Follow your instructor or guide during deeper sections. Avoid touching marine life, especially lionfish and moray eels. Entry and exit are usually easy, but always follow local briefings. Stay aware of other divers and snorkelers, especially in shallow coral areas.
